office
Henrique Reinach and Mauricio Mendonça founded Reinach Mendonça Arquitetos in 1987.
Their architecture has always been guided by respect to shape, light and comfort. A proper handling of fenestration, solids and gaps, results in an effective use of sunlight and temperature control. Adopting a contemporary language, circulations and outdoor openings are prior, as to create pleasant spaces to see, to be and to walk. During its first 15 years, the office has managed and built many of their projects, which has allowed them to have an empirical notion of construction site and costs. Simultaneously, the office's also worked on interior design, complementing its architectural work.
In 1993, the office's received first prize in Young Architects category by IAB/SP (Institute of Brazilian Architects – São Paulo), the same year its work was featured on Second International Biennial of Architecture (São Paulo) and International Biennial of Quito. From 1996 to 2008, Henrique and Mauricio received several awards and honorable mentions for their built designs by both AsBEA (Associação Brasileira dos Escritórios de Arquitetura) and IAB-SP (Instituto de Arquitetos do Brasil).
In 1999, the office was featured on "Brazil Still Builds" exposition, organized by Architecture Association (London - UK). In 2005 and 2009, the architects presented talks on Buenos Aires' Biennial, and received first prize on Architecture Biennial of Brasilia (2006).
The office's work has been featured on numerous national and international magazines, such as Abitare (Italy), Escala (Colombia), Architectural Digest (Italy) and Nox (Spain). Its projects were covers for the books "Private Rio" (New York) and "Glass Houses" (Spain). A prizewinning project was published, in 1999, on the AWA – Award Winning Architectural International Yearbook. In 2008, the publication “1000x Architecture of the Americas”, Publisher Braun, Germany, presented three of the firm’s designs amongst the 1000 most recent noteworthy designs in the Americas.
Since 2001, the office occupies its self-designed headquartes, an award-winning building located in São Paulo - Brazil. In 2012, Reinach Mendonça Arquitetos won both Office Architecture and Multiple Residence Architecture categories granted by Internacional Property Awards (London, UK).
